Charity

Charity is a primary focus for the Blue Goose.  The Virginia Pond supports many local charities through service and fundraising activities, and has contributed tens of thousands of dollars in recent years.  Please see the recent/upcoming Charity activities below:

February 2009

• 2/18/2009 (Meeting Night) - The Charity Committee will meet at 5:00, prior to the regular Pond meeting.  Anyone interested in helping in the selection and planning of the Pond’s charitable activities over the next year is asked to attend. 

June 2008

• 6/18/2008 (Wednesday Meeting) - Snacks and juice boxes will be collected for the ASK Pediatric Oncology Clinic at the Massey Cancer Center.  This will be a quarterly activity.

• 6/19/2008 (Thursday) - The Virginia Pond's 8th ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT at The Brookwoods Golf Club.  1:00 shotgun start.  Proceeds will be donated to local charities throughout the year.  Click here for registration and sponsorship details.

April 2008

• 4/26/2008 (Saturday) - Support the 3rd annual Fun Walk & 5K at Short Pump Town Center.  Registration starts at 7:30.  Register individually or sign-up at the April 16th meeting as part of a Blue Goose team.  Contact Nancy Harris for additional information. 

March 2008

• March 21, 2008 (Friday) - Charity Bowling Night.  The Virginia Pond is sponsoring a family bowling night at Sunset Lanes, 6540 Broad Street, Richmond.  The fun starts at 6:00.  Cost is $25/pp and includes shoes, ball and three games of bowling.  Proceeds will go into the VA Pond's fund for local charities.

January 2008

• January 16, 2008 - Central Virginia Food Bank.  In response to recent reports of shortages, we will be collecting noon-perishable food items at the January meeting. 

December 2007

• December 19, 2007 - Sgt. Santa.  Sgt. Santa has been delivering Christmas presents (and more) to needy children in Richmond since 1972.  As is our annual tradition, we will be collecting items for Sgt. Santa at the Christmas Social.  Gifts for older children and teens are a particular need this time of year. 

November 2007

• November 21, 2007 - Blue Star Mothers' Operation Shoe Box.  This organization provides care packages to overseas soldiers.  We will be passing the hat for cash donations at the November meeting. 

October 2007

• October 29, 2007 - Annual Halloween Party for VCU Medical Center's Pediatric Oncology Unit, 9am - 3pm.

September 2007

• September 19th, 2007 - One of our members will be selling raffle tickets on behalf of the Richmond SPCA. 

August 2007

• August 15th, 2007 - We will be collecting new and gently used loose clothing and shoes for the clothes closet at Sheltering Arms Rehab (inpatient) at St. Francis Hospital.  The clothes closet is in desperate need of inventory for their patients, many of whom have limited resources.  Puritan Cleaners is donating their services to clean used items.

June 2007

• June 20th, 2007 - We will be collecting toiletry items and outside games for the Daughters of Zelophehad, a Richmond based, ecumenical transitional living program for homeless women and their children.  Click here for a full list of needs.

April 2007 - ASK Month!

• April 6th, 2007 - Annual Easter Event for the ASK Pediatric Oncology Clinic at the Massey Center. 

• April 17th, 2007 - Annual Insure the Cure Golf tournament, benefiting ASK.

• April 28, 2007  - The Association for the Support of Kids with Cancer (ASK) will be sponsoring its second annual event at Short Pump Mall.  Join the Virginia Pond as we “Step out for Kids with Cancer”.  Visit http://www.askweb.org/ for additional details about the event and the local charitable organization.

March 2007

• January 17, 2006 - Hilliard House.  Personal items, Office Supplies, School Supplies, General Items and financial donations will be collected at our regular monthly meeting.
